Birth outcomes in women with gestational diabetes managed by lifestyle modification alone: The PANDORA Study
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Oct 09, 2019
Cheng E, Longmore D, Barzi F, et al. - Using multivariate linear and logistic regressions analysis, researchers evaluated outcomes of women in the Pregnancy and Neonatal Diabetes Outcomes in Remote Australia cohort with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) managed by lifestyle modification vs women without hyperglycaemia in pregnancy. Compared with women without hyperglycaemia, those with GDM-lifestyle had higher BMI and lower gestational weight gain. Investigators found that GDM women controlled by lifestyle change had higher induction rates and lower birthweight z-scores for their offspring, with a trend to lower large for gestational age than those without pregnancy hyperglycaemia. Additional studies to investigate explanations for higher induction rates were suggested.
