Birth by cesarean section in relation to adult offspring overweight and biomarkers of cardiometabolic risk
International Journal of Obesity Aug 28, 2017
Hansen S, et al. – Aim of this study was to evaluate the relation of birth by C–section with offspring overweight and markers of cardiometabolic risk in a prospective observational cohort with 20 years of follow–up. The results showed that birth by C–section was correlated with higher prevalence of dysmetabolic traits in offspring independently of shared risk factors. Future study aimed at replicating these findings and elucidating the underlying biological mechanisms of this relation is needed.
