Biodegradable polymer sirolimus-eluting stents vs durable polymer everolimus- eluting stents in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: A meta-analysis of individual patient data from 5 randomized trials
American Heart Journal Mar 23, 2021
Pilgrim T, Rothenbühler M, Siontis GCM, et al. - Researchers compared ultrathin strut, biodegradable polymer sirolimus eluting stents (BP SES) vs thin strut, durable polymer everolimus-eluting stents (DP EES), in terms of safety and efficacy, in patients receiving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). For this purpose, they pooled individual participant data from 5 randomized trials comprising 5,780 patients, and conducted a one-stage meta-analysis applying a mixed effects Cox regression model. At a median span of follow-up of 739 days, occurrence of target-lesion failure was evident in 337 (10.3%) and 304 (12.2%) patients managed with BP SES and DP EES. Findings revealed that among patients receiving PCI, BP SES were related to a similar risk of target-lesion failure relative to DP EES.
