Bifidobacteria and lactobacilli in the gut microbiome of children with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: Which strains act as health players?

Archives of Medical Science Dec 28, 2017

Nobili V, et al. - In this study, researchers examined the distribution of intestinal bifidobacteria and lactobacilli in the stools of four groups of children: obese, obese with Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), obese with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and healthy, age-matched controls (CTRLs). Findings revealed the possibility of a protective role of bifidobacteria against the development of NAFLD and obesity. This underscores their possible use in developing novel, targeted and effective probiotics.
