Benign prostatic hyperplasia and cardiovascular risk: A prospective study among Chinese men

Wang X, Su Y, Yang C, et al. - Higher risks of cardiovascular disease (CVD), heart disease and stroke were conferred by the presence of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in Chinese men, especially in those aged < 60 years.
From China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, data were obtained.
613 cases of non-fatal CVD, including 417 heart diseases and 254 strokes, were found during a follow-up of 7 years.
8.1% of men had a history of BPH diagnosed by physicians at baseline.
An elevated risk for CVD (multivariable-adjusted HR = 1.43, heart disease (1.35), and stroke (1.50) was noted in men with a history of BPH vs those without.
