Benign breast disease increases breast cancer risk independent of underlying familial risk profile: Findings from a Prospective Family Study Cohort
International Journal of Cancer Mar 20, 2019
Zeinomar N, et al. - Researchers examined the link between benign breast disease (BBD) and the risk of breast cancer (BC) by using the Prospective Family Study Cohort. They also determined the impact of underlying familial risk profile (FRP) on the association with BBD. They used the Breast Ovarian Analysis of Disease Incidence and Carrier Estimation Algorithm (BOADICEA) model to calculate FRP. An increased risk of BC was evident among women with a history of BBD; this increased risk was found to be independent of, and multiplied, their underlying familial and genetic risk.
