Benefits of rhythm control and rate control in recent-onset atrial fibrillation: The HERMES-AF Study
Academic Emergency Medicine Mar 14, 2019
Martín A, et al. - Researchers sought to assess how rhythm and rate control influence symptoms and necessity for hospital admission in patients with recent-onset atrial fibrillation (AF). In this multicenter, observational, cross-sectional study, they carried out prospective standardized data collection in 124 emergency departments (EDs). They included 421 patients; rhythm control was performed in 352 patients (83.6%) with a global effectiveness of 84%, while rate control was done in 69 patients (16.4%) with an effectiveness of 97%. As per outcomes, a high rate of symptoms' alleviation and a reduced rate of hospital admissions were noted for recent-onset AF patients who underwent rhythm control.
