Baseline neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio predicts response to corticosteroids and is associated with infection and renal dysfunction in alcoholic hepatitis
Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics Jul 26, 2019
Forrest EH, et al. - In patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis, researchers evaluated the prognostic and therapeutic implications of baseline Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte ratio (NLR). They retrospectively analyzed patients recruited to the STOPAH trial and an independent validation group. According to findings, baseline NLR has been available for 789 STOPAH patients. Acute kidney injury and infection in severe alcoholic hepatitis are associated with the NLR. The NLR identifies those that are most likely to benefit from baseline corticosteroids (NLR 5-8). The modified Glasgow Alcoholic Hepatitis Score has a strong predictive value for results of 28 and 90 days.
