Baseline and evolutionary radiologic features in sporadic, hemorrhagic brain cavernous malformations
American Journal of Neuroradiology Jun 19, 2019
Flemming KD, et al. - From an institutional review board–approved cavernous malformation registry of 51 patients, the researchers intended to describe the typical evolution of a sporadic, hemorrhagic brain cavernous malformation with time. Initial clinical and radiologic features and the subsequent MR imaging evolution were assessed. A characteristic pattern of evolution on follow-up imaging was demonstrated via hemorrhagic cavernous malformation. Hence, knowledge of such evolution helped to analyze the timing of imaging in relation to the clinical presentation. Furthermore, it could help distinguishing true cavernous malformation hemorrhagic evolution from mimics and also in guidance of the appropriate timing of interval-imaging follow-up after symptomatic bleeds in untreated patients.
