Bacteriuria is not associated with surgical site infection in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery

Duarte JC, et al. - The purpose of this study was to determine whether an association exists between the preoperative presence of asymptomatic bacteriuria or urinary tract infection and surgical site infection (SSI) in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. Findings suggested no association of bacteriuria presence with SSI risk in cardiovascular surgery. Researchers did not recommend screening with urinalysis or urine culture for patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
