Bacteremia in systemic lupus erythematosus: Risk factors, clinical and microbiological characteristics, and outcomes in the largest single-center retrospective cohort in Japan
Lupus Nov 02, 2021
Kogami M, Abe Y, Shimada Y, et al. - Patients with bacteremia and SLE were analyzed retrospectively to determine their characteristics.
Researchers analyzed a total of 65 patients with bacteremia and SLE (six males and 59 females) in this retrospective single-center observational study.
The group that survived was compared with the group that died. The patient died in 16 cases.
Patients who died were older, had lower Glasgow Coma Scale scores, higher sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) scores, and lower fibrinogen levels.
On encountering patients with suspected bacteremia, physicians are recommended to pay attention to the consciousness assessment and SOFA score, and be conscious concerning infections caused by common microorganisms and opportunistic infections.
