de Grado GF, et al. - Data from 1,004 French dentists were collected through an Internet questionnaire by the researchers in order to evaluate the prevalence and intensity of back pains as well as the influence of some work behaviors among a large sample of dentists. With intensity from 3.9 to 4.3 regards to the location, chronic back pains were reported by 77.9% of the dentists. In the neck and upper back, women reported more prevalent and intense pains than men. Age and years of practice had a correlation with more severe pains, dentists one by one standing and sitting positions reported more common and more severe pains in the upper and lower back in comparison with those with a fixed position, be it sitting or standing. Therefore, among dentists, prevalence and intensity of back pain were concluded as significant which progressed greatly over working life. Moreover, among dentists and dental students, preventive approaches such as ergonomics exist and awareness should be established.
