B-type brain natriuretic peptide as a measure of the severity of hand-foot-mouth disease: A case-control study
BMC Infectious Diseases Oct 15, 2017
Zhang A, et al. - Researchers here investigated whether B type natriuretic peptide (BNP) index was associated with the severity of hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) and the outcome in severe HFMD. As per findings, they suggested BNP as a biochemical indicator for severe (critical) HFMD and thus could be used for prognosis in terms of complications and death. Combined with Glu and partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2)/fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) and clinical symptoms of HFMD, the value of BNP as an indicator became more precise and specific. Results thereby suggested another valuable, objective biochemical indicator for severe HFMD.
