Azithromycin and sensorineural hearing loss in adults: A retrospective cohort study

Alrwisan A, et al. - In adults with uncomplicated infections, authors evaluated if the short-term use of azithromycin increases the risk of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Findings did not suggest an association of azithromycin short-term use with an increased risk of SNHL in comparison to amoxicillin ± clavulanate. For azithromycin vs amoxicillin ± clavulanate, the adjusted (matched) hazard ratio (HR) of SNHL was 0.91. They noted the consistency of the sensitivity analyses findings with the primary analysis.
