Azathioprine to mycophenolate mofetil transition and risk of squamous cell carcinoma after lung transplantation
The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation Mar 28, 2018
Vos M, et al. - The incidence of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) in a Dutch lung transplant recipient (LTR) cohort was investigated and associated risk factors were analyzed in this study. In this lung transplant recipient (LTR) cohort study, 9.6% LTRs developed at least one cSCC, with a cumulative incidence of 3.9% and 15.3% after 5 and 10 years, respectively. Age at transplantation, male gender, previous skin cancer, and a history of smoking were associated with an increased risk to develop cSCC in univariate analysis. Switching azathioprine to MMF is associated with reduced incidence of cSCC in LTR.
