Awareness and perceived risk of cardiovascular disease among individuals living with rheumatoid arthritis is low: Results of a systematic literature review
Arthritis Research & Therapy Jan 27, 2019
Ghosh-Swaby OR, et al. - From 1990 to 2018, researchers assessed data from MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PubMed databases to investigate the awareness of the link between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), as well as the perceived risk of CVD among people with RA. They found that people (73% to 97%) were unaware of an augmented risk of developing CVD in relation to RA. Misperceptions about CVD were common, and most individuals misestimated their risk of CVD. Findings revealed low awareness among those with RA at the highest risk for CVD. The investigators, therefore, emphasized the need for improved educational interventions.
