Automated measurement of liver attenuation to identify moderate-to-severe hepatic steatosis from chest CT scans
European Journal of Radiology Nov 04, 2019
Jirapatnakula A, Reevesb AP, Lewis S, et al. - Experts developed and authenticated an automated method for measuring liver attenuation in non-contrast low-dose chest CT (LDCT) scans and contrasted it to the standard manual method for recognizing moderate-to-severe hepatic steatosis (HS). In the first cohort, the manual and automated CT methods had nearly perfect agreement with limits of agreement (LoA) of -7.6—4.7 HU. Nearly perfect agreement with MRI and substantial agreement with pathology was seen in both manual and automated CT methods. In the second cohort, the manual and automated CT methods had nearly perfect agreement. LoA were -10.6—5.2 HU. Hence, to recognize moderate-to-severe HS on LDCT, from LDCT scans, automated measurements of liver attenuation could be utilized.
