Augmented reality navigation for spinal pedicle screw instrumentation using intraoperative 3D imaging
The Spine Journal Nov 03, 2019
Müller F, et al. - In this experimental cadaver study, experts assessed the surgical exactitude of holographic pedicle screw navigation via head-mounted device using 3D intraoperative fluoroscopy. Between AR-navigated drillings and the gold standard with pose-tracking system, no important variation in accuracy was measured, with mean translational errors between entry points of 3.4 ± 1.6 mm vs 3.2 ± 2.0 mm, and mean angular errors between trajectories of 4.3 ± 2.3° vs 3.5 ± 1.4°. In summary, via use of a head-mounted device, holographic navigation attains an accuracy similar to the gold standard of high-end pose-tracking systems.
