Auditory brainstem function in women with vestibular migraine: A controlled study

BMC Neurology Jul 03, 2019

Takeuti AA, et al. - Among 29 women with vestibular migraine in the interictal period and 25 healthy women, researchers evaluated auditory brainstem function using electrophysiological testing, contralateral acoustic reflex and loudness discomfort level. In addition, the threshold of loudness discomfort and the contralateral acoustic reflex were examined. A statistically significant difference was found between the groups in the frequency following response and the loudness discomfort level. During the interictal period, temporal auditory processing and loudness discomfort levels are altered in vestibular migraine patients, indicating that these measures may be useful as diagnostic criteria.
