Atypical Schwannoma: A 10-year experience
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Oct 29, 2019
Kocharyan AH, et al. - In this retrospective case review, researchers described the clinical presentation correlated with atypical schwannoma of the cerebellopontine angle, identified the pathologic findings and described the long-term result. The authors discovered that atypical schwannoma is an intermediate disease process with an accelerated clinical course and a higher rate of recurrence relative to vestibular schwannoma. Despite increased concern for postoperative complications, traditional operative approaches can be used. These patients should be provided intensive therapy and close follow-up given the higher risk of recurrence. In order to determine whether these patients need more frequent MRIs for long-term monitoring, larger studies are needed.
