Atrial fibrillation manifestations risk factors and sex differences in a population-based cohort (from the Gutenberg Health Study)
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 05, 2018
Magnussen C, et al. - Whether the distribution of cardiovascular risk factors in atrial fibrillation (AF) varies by disease status and sex, was investigated in individuals (age range 35-74 years, 50.5% men) from the population-based Gutenberg Health Study. Also, sex-specific predictors for AF were determined. Researchers reported that AF distribution, as well as clinical features including comorbidities, symptom burden, and structural cardiac, varied substantially by sex. Compared with women, a higher prevalence of AF was reported in men in addition to a worse cardiovascular risk factor profile, a higher prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, but fewer symptoms.
