Atopic dermatitis shows significant cutaneous comorbidity: Results from large-scale investigations in the working population
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Jul 18, 2019
Zander N, et al. - In this cross-sectional study involving 118,939 people (mean age 43.2 ± 10.7 years), researchers examined the prevalence and cutaneous comorbidity of atopic dermatitis (AD), one of the most common chronic inflammatory diseases of the skin, in Germany. Contact dermatitis, hand eczema, exsiccation dermatosis, folliculitis, and port wine stains were significantly more frequent in people with current AD. Among them, folliculitis was the most common (prevalence in AD 16.42%). In people with AD, psoriasis was significantly less frequent. According to findings, cutaneous comorbidity in people with AD is frequent and of great importance, indicating the need for comprehensive, dermatologically guided diagnosis of AD.
