Atherosclerosis and microvascular complications: Results from the Canadian Study of Longevity in Type 1 Diabetes
Diabetes Care Oct 27, 2018
Lovshin JA, et al. - In adults with a ≥50-year history of type 1 diabetes, researchers assessed the connections between atherosclerotic burden and neuropathy, retinopathy, and diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Study participants were 69 adults with type 1 diabetes who had coronary artery calcification (CAC) volume scoring by wide-volume computerized tomography. According to the findings, the occurrence of high CAC in adults with longstanding type 1 diabetes was not correlated with renal hemodynamic function but to large–nerve fiber neuropathy and retinopathy, implying that retinopathy, neuropathy, and macrovascular calcification share mutual risk factors.
