Atherogenic index of plasma is associated with major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Cardiovascular Diabetology Oct 09, 2021
Fu L, Zhou Y, Sun J, et al. - According to findings, atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) might afford a strong biomarker that could be employed for predicting the risk of cardiovascular events in patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
This is a secondary analysis of the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) study, which randomly assigned 10,251 patients with long-lasting T2DM.
AIP was identified as an independent risk factor for T2DM prognosis (HR = 1.309).
For AIP, 0.34 was the threshold ascertained in the study population.
AIP was related to the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, all-cause death, cardiovascular death, and nonfatal myocardial infarction, post-adjustments for confounding factors, in multivariable analysis.
In subgroup stratified analyses, it was observed that AIP might interact with gender, a classical risk factor of cardiovascular events.
