Asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction in type 2 diabetic patients free of cardio vascular disease and relationship with clinical characteristics: The DIACAR cohort study
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Nov 02, 2020
Hanon YA. Hamou AB. Garçon P, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence, type, and clinical factors associated with left ventricular dysfunction in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients by a comprehensive echocardiographic Doppler assessment including speckle tracking. Between 2018 and 2019, researchers prospectively included 200 T2DM patients without overt cardiovascular disease in a single-center cohort study. The study found a high prevalence of asymptomatic cardiac dysfunction/structural abnormalities in T2DM without overt cardiac disease and is correlated with either age, diabetes duration, or treatment and with comorbidities including hypertension and obesity. If these preclinical abnormalities are correlated with poor outcomes deserve future trials.
