Asthma with bronchial hypersecretion: Expression of mucins and toll-like receptors in sputum and blood
Journal of Asthma and Allergy Oct 19, 2017
Crespo-Lessmann A, et al. - This study entailed the characterization of clinical and inflammatory phenotype of asthma with bronchial hypersecretion of mucus. Furthermore, asthmatic patients with and without bronchial hypersecretion were assessed for the expression of toll-like receptors (TLRs) in induced sputum (IS) and blood and these patients were also compared in terms of the type of mucin in IS. Findings demonstrated that asthma patients with bronchial hypersecretion not only exhibited poor quality of life as well as a non-allergic inflammatory phenotype but also had more severe and uncontrolled disease. Mucins and TLRs did not appear to play a crucial role in the mechanisms involving these differences.
