Asthma in children of mothers with systemic lupus erythematosus and the role of preterm birth
Arthritis Care & Research Jul 13, 2018
Rossides M, et al. - Authors gauged the association between maternal systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) during pregnancy and childhood asthma and examined the role of preterm birth as a mediator of the association using Swedish register data. Findings suggested a correlation of prevalent maternal SLE during pregnancy with an elevated risk of asthma in the offspring. While a fair proportion of this relationship could be explained by preterm birth, there is a likeliness of additional unidentified mechanisms to play a role.
