Asthma and risk of glioma: A population-based case–control study
BMJ Open Jun 21, 2019
Kaur H, et al. - Via performing a population-based case–control study that included 135 glioma cases, researchers investigated and refined the association between asthma and risk of glioma by reducing methodological biases (eg, recall and detection bias). Asthma was inversely associated with the risk of glioma based on MRI controls, but it was not supported in community controls. Community controls appeared to be more susceptible to detection bias, based on the comparison of features of controls and cases. Further, asthma could potentially exert a protecting effect on the glioma risk, while differential detection accounts for the association, according to findings. However, laboratory data and lung function testing results were not included in the study results. Hence, findings support the justification for the inconsistent results on the relationship between asthma and the risk of glioma.
