Associations of reproductive factors with breast cancer prognosis and the modifying effects of menopausal status
Cancer Medicine Nov 26, 2019
Zhang JY, Wang MX, Wang X, et al. - By analyzing data from 3,805 breast cancer patients, researchers assessed the links of various reproductive factors with breast cancer prognosis as well as the modifying influences of menopausal status. The participants were observed until 30 June 2018. For the links of age at first birth and durations from first/last birth to diagnosis with breast cancer prognosis, they identified U-shaped patterns. Premenopausal women had significantly more pronounced adverse influences of old age at first birth and long intervals from first or last birth to diagnosis on progression-free survival (PFS). A better PFS was observed in relation to a long interval (> 5 years) between first and second birth. Experts recommended considering age at first birth, durations from first/last birth to diagnosis, and intervals between first and second birth, when observing the patients and evaluating the prognosis of breast cancer, especially for premenopausal patients.
