Associations of plasma nitrite, L-arginine and asymmetric dimethylarginine with morbidity and mortality in patients with necrotizing soft tissue infections
Shock May 18, 2018
Hansen MB, et al. - Experts assessed the relationship between plasma nitrite level at admission and the occurrence of septic shock in patients with necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI). They also looked at the relationship between nitrite, asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), L-arginine, L-arginine/ADMA ratio, and outcome. No difference was seen in patients with NSTI in baseline nitrite levels with regard to septic shock. Findings suggested an association of high baseline ADMA level with the use of renal replacement therapy (RRT). In addition, patients with a low baseline L-arginine/ADMA ratio had a greater risk of dying within 28 days following hospital admission.
