Associations of leisure-time physical activity and television viewing with life expectancy free of nonfatal cardiovascular disease: The ARIC Study
Journal of the American Heart Association Sep 16, 2019
Cuthbertson CC, Tan X, Heiss G, et al. - Among participants (n = 13,534) from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities cohort, researchers assessed the links of leisure-time moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (LTPA) and television viewing with life expectancy at age 50 free of 3 types of cardiovascular disease (CVD), ie, nonfatal coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, and heart failure (HF). They performed a follow-up of 27 years which revealed the development of one of the 3 nonfatal CVDs in 4,519 participants and 5475 deaths. Findings revealed longer life expectancy free of CHD, stroke, and HF in correlation with higher levels of LTPA and less television viewing.
