Associations of immunological features with COVID-19 severity: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Infectious Diseases Aug 10, 2021
Zhang Z, Ai G, Chen L, et al. - COVID-19 disease severity can be assessed by measuring immunological features which in turn may aid in effective triage of COVID-19 patients.
This meta-analysis was performed including 21 studies with 2,033 COVID-19 patients.
Severe cases with COVID-19 diagnosis exhibit significantly lower levels of immune cells (CD3+ T, CD4+ T, CD8+ T, B and NK cells), higher levels of cytokines (TNF-α, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-10) and higher levels of chemokines (MCP-1, IP-10 and eotaxin) when compared with mild cases.
