Associations of genetically determined iron status across the phenome: A Mendelian randomization study
PLoS Medicine Jul 10, 2019
Gill D, et al. - Researchers examined the broad clinical effects of varying iron status through a genome-wide association study, a Mendelian randomization study on 48,972 European individuals across 19 cohorts. To examine its impacts on a broad spectrum of medical results, randomly assigned genetic variants connected with iron status were used. According to results, lower risk of anemia and hypercholesterolemia and a greater risk of skin and skin structure infections were correlated with genetic variations associated with greater iron status. These findings warrant further investigation given the modifiable and variable nature of the iron status.
