Associations of current wheeze and body mass index with perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis in young adults
International Archives of Allergy and Immunology May 19, 2018
Matsumoto M, et al. - Researchers assessed the coexistence of current wheeze and two types of allergic rhinitis (AR) [perennial (PAR) and seasonal AR (SAR)] and the influence of body mass index (BMI) on these two conditions in Japanese young adults (students from Hokkaido University). In multinomial regression analyses, the association of wheeze with PAR and/or SAR was found to be stronger relative to that of wheeze with SAR without PAR. No link was found between the prevalence of PAR and BMI. Contrarily, a low BMI was found to have a significant relation to a high SAR prevalence. Overall, when compared, PAR and SAR were found to be differentially associated with current wheeze and BMI.
