Associations of atopic dermatitis and asthma with child behaviour: Results from the PROBIT cohort
Clinical & Experimental Allergy May 17, 2019
Ballardini N, et al. - In this secondary cohort analysis of the PROmotion of Breastfeeding Intervention Trial, researchers assessed the extent to which child behavior at 6.5 years was influenced by atopic dermatitis (AD) in infancy and symptoms of asthma and AD at 6.5 years. The Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire was used as well as data on infantile AD obtained at repeated follow-up examinations during the first year of life. A higher risk for concomitant hyperactivity/inattention and emotional disorder was reported for children with AD symptoms. Findings also revealed a higher risk of having concomitant emotional problems in children with asthma symptoms. However, childhood behaviors were not predicted by AD during infancy.
