Associations of adult-attained height and early life energy restriction with postmenopausal breast cancer risk according to estrogen and progesterone receptor status
International Journal of Cancer Oct 25, 2018
Elands RJJ, et al. - Experts conducted analyses to assess the postmenopausal breast cancer (BC) risk in relation to height and early life energy restriction. For this study, 62,573 women from the Netherlands Cohort Study (55-69 years old) completed a self-administered questionnaire in 1986 and were followed-up for 20.3 years. Findings suggested an association of height and energy restriction before and/or during the growth spurt with hormone receptor-positive BC risk, in the direction as expected, indicating critical exposure windows for hormonal growth-related mechanisms. They noted an association of energy restriction before and/or during the growth spurt with a decreased hormone receptor-positive BC risk. Height was linked with an increased risk of BC, especially hormone receptor-positive BC.
