Associations between recent and established ophthalmic conditions and risk of Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's & Dementia Aug 21, 2018
Lee CS, et al. - This study was carried out to evaluate the relationship between Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk and recent and established ophthalmic conditions, like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and cataract. The study sample consisted of 3,877 participants. Researchers reported that increased AD risk was seen with recent glaucoma diagnoses, established AMD diagnoses, and both recent and established DR. No association between cataract and AD was found. The study findings suggested that individuals with certain ophthalmic conditions might have increased AD risk.
