Associations between plasma nesfatin-1 levels and the presence and severity of coronary artery disease
Heart and Vessels Jan 05, 2019
Ibe S, et al. – Given the probable pro-inflammatory and apoptotic properties of nesfatin-1, researchers evaluated the link between plasma nesfatin-1 levels and coronary artery disease (CAD). Of the 302 study participants undergoing elective coronary angiography regarding plasma nesfatin-1 levels, 172 (57%) had CAD (67 had 1-vessel, 49 had 2-vessel, and 56 had 3-vessel disease). Patients with CAD displayed higher plasma nesfatin-1 levels vs those without CAD (130 patients). Multivariate analysis revealed plasma nesfatin-1 levels to be associated with CAD independent of atherosclerotic risk factors. Findings thus suggested that, in patients with CAD, high nesfatin-1 levels may play a role in the development of coronary atherosclerosis.
