Associations between pancreatic lipids and β-cell function in black African and white European men with type 2 diabetes
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Mar 07, 2019
Hakim O, et al. - In this cross-sectional evaluation of 18 white European (WE) and 19 black West African (BWA) middle-aged men with early type 2 diabetes (T2D) as part of the South London Diabetes and Ethnicity Phenotyping study, authors investigated the association between intrapancreatic lipid (IPL) and β-cell function. They recorded greater mean IPL levels among WE men when compared with BWA men, chiefly in the pancreatic head. An inverse relationship between mean IPL level and orally stimulated first-phase ISF was noticed in WE. They found no relationship with orally stimulated second-phase ISF in either WE or BWA men. They did not observe any correlation between the mean IPL level and intravenously stimulated ISF.
