Associations between methotrexate use and the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with elderly-onset rheumatoid arthritis
The Journal of Rheumatology May 05, 2019
Widdifield J, et al. - In patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), researchers assessed the connections between time-varying methotrexate (MTX) use and risk of cardiovascular events (CVE). They evaluated an inception cohort of 23,994 patients among whom RA was diagnosed following their 65th birthday. In all, they noted a 20% decline in CVE associated with recent continuous use of MTX. In the association between MTX and CVE risk, greater use of MTX in the first year of cohort entry also seemed to be important.
