Associations between maternal obesity and pregnancy hyperglycemia and timing of pubertal onset in adolescent girls: A population-based study
American Journal of Epidemiology Mar 22, 2018
Kubo A, et al. - Whether in utero exposure to maternal obesity is associated with daughters’ pubertal timing, was investigated herein. Maternal metabolic factors during pregnancy were shown to be of importance in regards to girls’ pubertal timing. Maternal obesity (BMI ≥30 kg/m2) or overweight (BMI 25-29.9 kg/m2) was shown to be related to earlier breast onset in girls, adjusting for girls’ race/ethnicity, maternal age, education, parity and smoking during pregnancy. Furthermore, potential differences by race/ethnicity were also noted in the associations.
