Associations between maternal nutrition in pregnancy and child blood pressure at 4–6 years: A prospective study in a community-based pregnancy cohort
The Journal of Nutrition Feb 13, 2021
Ni Y, Szpiro A, Loftus C, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to examine the correlations of maternal dietary patterns and plasma folate concentrations with blood pressure in children aged 4–6 years, and evaluate the potential effect modifications by child sex, maternal race, pre-pregnancy overweight or obesity, maternal smoking, and breastfeeding. Candidates were 846 mother-child dyads from the Conditions Affecting Neurocognitive Development and Learning in Early Childhood (CANDLE) study. There was no evidence of the impact of maternal nutrition on childhood blood pressure during pregnancy, but gender- and race-specific associations were observed. The research leads to the evolving scientific investigation of the disease's developmental origins.
