Associations between diet quality and dental caries in low-income women
Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics May 28, 2021
Sachdev PK, Freeland-Graves J, Babaei M, et al. - Researchers undertook this cross-sectional analysis to determine the links between diet quality as ascertained using HEI-2015 (Healthy Eating Index 2015) total and component scores and Decayed, Missing, Filled Teeth Index (DMFT) scores among low-income women. Participants were examined via questionnaires and dental examinations on 1 occasion. By adding decayed, missing, and filled teeth, experts computed dental caries scores. Presence of caries in permanent teeth was found in 95.6% of participants. Findings demonstrated an inverse relationship of diet quality, as measured by the HEI-2015, with DMFT scores among low-income women.
