Associations between clinically diagnosed testicular hypofunction and systemic lupus erythematosus: A record linkage study

Clinical Rheumatology Nov 08, 2017

Pakpoor J, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate a potential link between testicular hypofunction (TH), as a proxy for low testosterone levels, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in males. Findings indicated a positive link between TH and SLE, that lends support to the notion that low testosterone levels may influence the development of male SLE. Notably, the risk of co-morbid TH is higher in males with SLE (regardless of which precedes which) and this may warrant consideration in the management of patients.
