Associations between blood cell profiles and primary open-angle glaucoma: A retrospective case-control study
Ophthalmic Research Feb 11, 2020
Tang B, et al. - This retrospective case-control study was undertaken to determine if the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), and systemic immune inflammation index (SII) were correlated with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). The sample consisted of 240 patients with POAG and 300 age- and sex-matched control individuals. Compared with the control group, the values of NLR, PLR, and SII in the POAG group were significantly raised. However, in the POAG patients, the LMR value was lower than in the control group. Data reported that the NLR's best cutoff point was 1.998 with a sensitivity of 59.8% and a specificity of 63.0%, and the SII was 947.365 with a sensitivity of 95.4% and a specificity of 95.7%. In POAG patients, the authors hypothesized that elevated NLR and SII may serve as readily available inflammatory predictors.
