Chang SL, et al. - Researchers attempted to ascertain if varicose veins exhibited a connection with an increased risk of deep venous thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) or peripheral artery disease (PAD) in patients aged 20 years and older. A markedly increased risk of incident DVT was discovered in adults diagnosed with varicose veins. Yielded data for PE and PAD appeared to be less clear due to the potential for confounding.
