Association of urinary tract infection guidelines with vesicoureteral reflux screening
JAMA Oct 04, 2019
Lee T, et al. - Researchers investigated the outcomes related to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued guidelines, on patterns of diagnosis among children with underlying vesicoureteral reflux and discovery rates of vesicoureteral reflux per screening voiding cystourethrogram done for all children. They hypothesized a betterment, in children with vesicoureteral reflux, in the detection rates of vesicoureteral reflux at the expense of postponed diagnoses. In 2011, in children aged 2 to 24 months who manifest with febrile urinary tract infection, the AAP issued guidelines suggesting against using routine voiding cystourethrograms and instead directing toward getting a renal ultrasonographic image and preserving voiding cystourethrographic examinations for certain situations.
