Association of urinary oxalate excretion with the risk of chronic kidney disease progression
JAMA Internal Medicine Mar 08, 2019
Waikar SS, et al. - In this prospective cohort study, researchers ascertained if urinary oxalate excretion is a risk factor for more rapid progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) toward kidney failure. According to results, higher urinary excretion of oxalate was related to a 37% greater adjusted risk of future end-stage kidney disease in this cohort study involving 3,123 people with CKD. In individuals with CKD stages 2-4, higher 24-hour urinary oxalate excretion could be a risk factor for CKD progression and end-stage renal disease.
