Association of Tourette syndrome and chronic tic disorder with cervical spine disorders and related neurological complications

For conducting this matched cohort study, researchers identified all individuals born from 1973 to 2013 and living in Sweden between 1997 and 2013 and included 6,791 individuals with Tourette syndrome or chronic tic disorder diagnosed in specialist settings and 67,910 unaffected individuals.
Risk of having any cervical spine disorder (vascular or nonvascular) appeared 39% increased for patients.
Overall, there was increased risk of cervical spine disorders, including those associated with potential long-term disability, among individuals with Tourette syndrome or chronic tic disorder.
