Association of total sedentary behaviour and television viewing with risk of overweight/obesity, type 2 diabetes and hypertension: A dose–response meta-analysis
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Oct 09, 2019
Guo C, Zhou Q, Zhang D, et al. - Researchers assessed quantitatively possible linear or non-linear correlations of total sedentary behaviour and television viewing with the risk of overweight/obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D) and hypertension in adults. The meta-analysis included 48 articles (58 studies) with a total of 1,071,967 candidates. The authors observed linear correlations between total sedentary behaviour and T2D and hypertension, as well as a non-linear relationship between total sedentary behaviour and overweight/obesity. The risk increased by 8% for T2D and 6% for hypertension for each 1-h/d increase in television viewing. Findings suggested an association of high levels of total sedentary behaviour and television viewing with overweight/obesity, T2D and hypertension.
